County Football Champions
A huge congratulations to the u16 Girls Footballers on their county final win today in a tightly contested match v Coláiste Ghobnatan Ballyvourney on a score line of 3-7 to 2-7 in Dromtariffe GAA. The girls got off to a strong start, scoring the first few points of the game. Points were shared by both teams, with little to separate the sides until goals from Avabha Clifford and Deirdre Cronin shortly before half-time gave the Coláiste a 7 point lead. Playing into the wind in the second half, a good start was needed. 2 quick goals in succession from Coláiste Ghobnatan had our girls under pressure, but spurred on by the incredible support from our 1st year students, the girls fought back. A tremendous long-range goal from Grace Cronin helped the Coláiste regain their lead. Some tenacious defending from our girls kept out the Ballyvourney forwards, and as the final whistle was blown, scenes of joy and excitement were seen on the pitch by both players and management.
We in the Coláiste are extremely proud of the girls and the tremendous effort they put in all year. Many of these girls were involved with the Senior teams who reached the Munster and County finals in recent weeks, and today’s result is just reward for their training and commitment all year.
On their return to the Colaiste they were greeted to a guard of honour by students and staff.
