Fitness Challenge Week 5 Results & Midterm

Well done to all those that got out and active for Week 5 of the Coláiste Mhuire Fitness Challenge, the ‘Tour de Ireland’. Congratulations to Eimear Kennedy, 5th year, for winning the sports voucher for completing an activity of more than 30 minutes during the week👏

At the end of this week, we noticed some interesting statistics from Week 5:

- 1st Years are on their way to the Giants Causeway having spent a few days sightseeing in Dublin, while the 2nd years paid a visit to the most northern point in Ireland, Malin Head.

- 3rd years are midway between Dublin and the Giants Causeway, and will hope to reach Croagh Patrick by the end of this week, while the TY group have a third of the Tour completed and spent the weekend in Dublin visiting the GPO and Croke Park.

- 5th years celebrated the start of Midterm in the Wicklow Mountains, while the 6th years spent a little longer than what they hoped in FOTA, but are expected to clock up more KM’s this week with a break from the books.

- Having travelled through Leinster and Ulster, the Staff group spent the weekend at W.B Yeats grave to celebrate the start of the Midterm! How exciting!

- Teachers regained their place at the top of the leader board, but with students off for Midterm break, we are fearful that most students will spend their days outside so we will need to recruit more staff for our club!

- And finally, we had new leaders for most year groups for Week 5, which is very encouraging to see and also highlights the competitiveness of some of the students in each year group.

For Week 6 (Midterm) we have decided to continue with the ‘Tour de Ireland’. No year group has completed the challenge, so for this week we are challenging all year groups to complete the Tour, as with no school we have more time to get out and get active! Every walk/run completed will count towards the distance travelled around the country! Again, we are also asking everyone to complete this 5k with a family member/friend (complying with 2m social distancing) as we know that Physical Activity is more important now than ever for our physical and mental health.

For this week’s prize, students must complete an activity of more than 30 minutes duration to be entered into a draw to win a Sports Voucher🏃‍♀‍🏃🏼‍♂‍ A winner will again be picked at random across all year groups.
