As many of you know, singing in a choir been a little different this year. Many students have really missed this and some brave students decided to take part in this virtual choir.

Second year groups were involved in a drama workshop under the guidance of Creative Director, Tadhg Hickey. Tadhg is a well known actor and writer from Cork. Students worked together to create their own drama scene focusing on the elements of stage craft. Well done to all involved who participated so willingly.

Many thanks to all the students who participated so greatly in our recent Numeracy Week 2020. We had various competitions throughout the week and congratulations to those who were our winners. The 1st Years participated in the Maths Week Mega Quiz which was held live on Zoom. It was organised by Maths Week Ireland and over 300 schools were involved in the live quiz. We hope that you all enjoyed your week and learned that Numeracy is intertwined into our daily lives.

The core theme for Science Week 2020 is ‘Choosing Our Future’ focusing on how science can improve our lives in the future, and in the present. This will explore how science can help us to make positive choices that will impact the environment, our health, and our quality of life.

This week in the Coláiste we are celebrating Numeracy Week. Due to current circumstances, the weeks activities are more paired back than normal. Nonetheless, students will be sure to enjoy various puzzles and challenges across various subjects. Maths Week Ireland are encouraging parents and guardians to get involved and highlight the importance of numeracy. To help you we have provided numerous puzzles for you to try at home with all the family as well as useful information from leading Maths and numeracy experts. Congratulations to last year's school bank who received the Best Newcomers Award at the AIB Build a Bank Challenge 2020. We would like to extend a special word of thanks to Letitia Lynch from AIB Charleville for all of her work with the school and the students throughout the year.

Coláiste Mhuire, Buttevant would like to congratulate all of our 2020 Leaving Certificate students on their outstanding achievements. The school is delighted and extremely proud to see another year group progressing so successfully to the next chapter of their lives. We wish each and every one of you well as you commence the next stage of your journey in University, College, Apprenticeships or in the world of work.

This week in the Colaiste saw all our students return to classes and the further development of our already wonderful campus. Construction work continued on the parent-student drop off area which on completion will provide twenty car parking space and a new vehicular entrance for parents.

Polycarbonate screen installed on all teacher desks to allow for clear communication without teacher mask where necessary. Teachers will wear masks when not behind screen.

We are looking forward to welcoming our students and staff back very soon. There has been extensive changes made to the facilities to ensure the safety of our school community. Some of the changes can be seen in the pictures below - hand sanitzers have been installed at all entry/ exit posts as well as all classrooms.

The purpose of this communication is to outline the measures taken in Coláiste Mhuire to ensure the safe reopening and operation of our school. Whilst we have put numerous measures in place to minimise the risk of COVID-19 for students, staff, families and the wider community it is important to point out that no interpersonal activity is without some risk of transmission of infection at any time.

Over the past 3 to 4 years the number of students and families who wish to avail of the school bus service to Coláiste Mhuire, Buttevant has increased significantly. The increase in applications to Bus Eireann means that many families who would like to avail of a bus service are refused places due to the limited number of places available through the Bus Eireann Service.

Plans and preparations are well under way for the full reopening of the Coláiste and we are looking forward to seeing all of our students and staff returning from Tuesday 1st September. This year more than ever the quality of our staff and student induction will play a vital role in ensuring the school community is familiar with the protocols and behaviours necessary to keep everyone safe.
