Principal’s Welcome
What sets us apart:
Progressive teaching
Continuous professional development advancies our delivery of lessons to the benefit of our students for example; Junior Cycle training, Instructional Leadership, graphic organisers, wellbeing and iPad training. This also creates a strong culture of collaboration among staff. We have embraced digital technology as method of delivering, sharing and assessing our lessons. Student desks are arranged in clusters of 4 to facilitate regular group work. Where possible we practice Team Teaching, reducing the teacher – pupil ratio and ensuring students reach their full potential.
Academic excellence
We have an outstanding reputation for academic excellence, but the development of student’s intellectual and physical potential is also an integral part of the everyday school curriculum. Through meticulous planning we ensure that our educational programmes are designed to offer students the most up to date and relevant educational opportunities.
Inclusive in every sense
We offer a wide range of subjects and extra-curricular activities to cater for all our individual students needs. Students whom receive ASD and SEN support are integrated into mainstream classes where possible. Students needs are assessed on an individual basis and their timetables are personalised to reflect this. Where possible Team Teaching is used to ensure students can remain in regular classes. Lessons are adapted and differentiated with a focus on effective questioning and assessment for learning.
Person centered
Positive interaction between teachers and pupils and between home and school is very much the norm. Students are greeted with a smile - something we pride ourselves on. Student self-worth is fostered in a positive and structured environment. We strive to make our school a safe and secure place where each student is accepted unconditionally. We give students the opportunity to have a voice which ensures in our school community that everyone is heard and their needs met. Student voice provides us with an effective evaluation of our teaching and learning within the Coláiste.
Part of the community
School initiatives have created strong links to the community. Our T.Y social action committee organise digital learning workshops, choir performances and playing card games for senior citizens in our community. The school perform an annual drama. Students are involved in charity work with SVP food drives and the Christmas shoe box appeal. We have developed a common approach to Literacy and Numeracy in conjunction with our local Primary schools. We has strong links with the surrounding local sports clubs and both staff and local members demonstrate a great interest in our student’s sporting development.
Positive atmosphere
It is important to us that each and every student feels welcome, secure and cared for within the school. The personal nature with which we carry out our daily business, where every teacher knows every student and where students are given individual attention in small classes is the cornerstone upon which our school community is built.
State of the art campus
The past few years have marked a new chapter in the life of Coláiste Mhuire as we moved into our newly developed school campus in January 2016. The realisation of this campus, has brought with it great excitement and a huge sense of opportunity for our school community. Such state of the art facilities will support teachers and students as we strive to further develop our long standing tradition of quality education and care.

Student Support
Our Student Support Team help to ensure the Coláiste supports the contribution that each member of the school community makes in helping us to realise our school mission. Our Student Support Team meets on a weekly basis to ensure that all of our students needs are being recognised and that relevant supports are put in place to meet these needs. Members of the support team are continuously liaising and working with subject teachers, class teachers and management. Such teamwork coupled with the relatively small size and familiarity of our community helps us to ensure that care is tailored to meet the individual’s needs.

Maximising individual potential
Here in Colaiste Mhuire, we believe that academic success is very important and we have established an enviable reputation as a school where students of all abilities flourish. We strive to equip our students with the qualifications and skills they will need for their future working lives. We encourage them to become the leaders of tomorrow in whatever field they choose to develop their careers. For some, this will be by gaining degrees in universities and colleges, for others, through further education or apprenticeship. Each route is equally valuable and it is by ensuring that every student maximises their potential, achieving the best results possible that we secure this for every pupil in our school community.
