Dear TY Parent/Guardian, If your son/ daughter’s current TY work placement falls under a category of work that is deemed essential under level 5 restrictions it may be acceptable that they attend their work experience placements. The decision is yours as a parent/guardian if you want your son/daughter to engage in the work placement during this period. Where attending, please ensure that your son/daughter is in a work experience placement which is following all Covid 19 Safety protocols. Online courses will be assigned to TY students not attending work experience via Teams every Friday. Kindest regards, TY Coordination Team

Just a couple of important items to note for now: On this Friday 4th you are expected to complete the following course about Covid 19 and the Work Place and sort/finalize your placements for the year. Work Experience Guidelines

Dear TY student, I hope you and your family are keeping safe and well.  I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your hard work and commitment to the transition year programme 19/20.   I am disappointed that you didn’t get to participate in the full transition year programme but I hope you enjoyed what you did get to experience this year.  I want to particularly thank students for forwarding all your wonderful assignment/projects  over the last 10 weeks.

Last week three TY students represented the Coláiste at an online Model UN conference hosted by Loreto Fermoy. Cathal Duggan, Anna Salvin and Ciara Browne were assigned a country/organisation from the UN and researched the historical and political stance on issues such as ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the impact of SARS on developing countries and human rights violations in sweatshops and labour camps.

Well done to the Super Savers school bank who won Best Newcomers at the AIB Build a Bank final on Friday! We are so proud of this group of students and delighted with their achievement! Well done Caitriona, Michaela, Joni, Gabriela, Sophie and Ryan!

Well done to the Supersavers School Bank who represented the Colaiste at the AIB Build a Bank finals yesterday. Caitriona, Joni and Gabriela made an online presentation showcasing the work they and the other bank members have done throughout the last academic year.

I hope you and your families are keeping safe and well. Firstly I want to congratulate all the TY students who have sent me on wonderful photos of their cookery challenge, extracts from their diaries, and certificates of completion from their online courses. Well done to all, hope you enjoyed the activities and keep up the great work.

Congratulations to the graduates of our TY led computer class programme at the Coláiste! Since January the TY Social Action students have been sharing their IT skills with people from the local community. They were each paired up and the students taught them computer skills like email, how to access information online and photo storage. We really enjoyed getting to know all of our graduates and wish them continued luck with their IT journey!

School Drama 2020 - Next Thursday and Friday

Congratulations to Sophie and Gabriela who won the Audience Choice award at the finals of the UCC Psychslam Competition on Friday last. Well done girls !

Transition year students have been very busy in the Home Economics kitchen producing some wonderful creations over the last few weeks. Well done all!

Transition years were delighted to start their mini course in sign language today with Mr Curtin.

As part of Global Money Week, transition year students engaged in a Money management workshop facilitated by Jacklyn and Catherine from MABS.  The students explored the importance of knowing the difference between needs & wants, savings and calculating the cost of credit - all essentials skills for the future!! 

Transition year girls visited the wonderful I Wish conference in City Hall yesterday. I Wish is an inititative to inspire, encourage and motivate young females students to pursue careers in science , Engineering and Maths.  The heard from wonderful speakers and engaged with the interactive exhibitions. 

TY students Anna, Cathal, Joni, Sophie, Ciara and Gabriela are representing the Colaiste this week at the annual Model United Nations conference.

TY students were delighted to be invited to attend the Claire Byrne show live on Monday night in the RTE studios in Dublin. The students were given the opportunity to see how live television works as well as meeting Claire in person after the show. Being a part of the studio audience afforded the students the opportunity to hear first hand the stories of the guests as well as getting to see a bomb diffusal robot in action. 

Our transition year students attended the North Cork trade fair in the Mallow GAA Complex last Thursday. They displayed their fantastic designs and received great praise for their innovation and creative business ideas. Well done all.

Our TY students visited DELL in Cork on 5th December 2019 to aid them in career choices.

Our Transition year students enjoyed a great road safety training day last Thursday in the Munster Driving Campus. Students learnt fundamental driving skills, road safety, car maintenance and the effects of alcohol has on your driving.
